Washing machines have undergone intensive changes during the last decade. Like all other modern machines, this home appliance was also subjected to many changes in its form and content in tune with the changing lifestyles and attitudes of the people. The modern home makers have limited time for household chores, because of certain compelling circumstances like rigid work schedules and extended working hours. Above all, the modern homemakers have little or no time to monitor the working of their washer machines and wanted programmable or computerized machines.
Market did not disappoint the aspiring modern consumers. Washing machines which need no monitoring were introduced in the markets. The machines will monitor the load, choose the appropriate wash cycle, dispense the required quantity of detergent, and regulate the water temperature. When the washing and drying process are over the machine will automatically switch off itself. If programmed so, the machine will switch on by itself and complete the washing process during the off peak hour period when the power tariff is lower.
Technology is being up graded periodically to make the washer machine more user friendly as well as eco friendly. The new designs are aimed at making loading and unloading the clothes easier. Control panels with digital display make it more convenient to operate than earlier models. Many new features are being incorporated in the washing machines to cater the specific or special requirements of the users. This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a "borderless world", cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market.
In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another.
